Public Lecture on the EU Charter and Round Table on the protection of personal data by Professor Koen Lenaerts on the occasion of his official visit as President of the Court of Justice of the European Union to Cyprus (2019)

Dear Readers, it is our great pleasure to introduce you to a series of events which took place in Cyprus in 2019 with keynote speaker Professor Koen Lenaerts , President of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). On 15 April 2019, the School of Law of UCLan Cyprus and the Law Department of the University of Cyprus proudly co-organised a public lecture whereby Prof. Lenaerts explored the impact and the role of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in the legal orders of the Member States. On 16 April 2019, during a student-focused roundtable, Prof. Lenaerts gave enlightening insights into the role of the CJEU in the protection of personal data. Both events explored aspects which are directly relevant to the Rule of Law as a pillar of every Democratic society. It could not have been more relevant in times of crisis. As with any crisis, the Rule of Law is at edge. Hence, this is the time to grasp, more than ever, the importance and the implications of the Rule of Law.

We hope you enjoy the reading of these materials, reproduced with the kind permission of the President of the CJEU, with our deepest gratitude.
